Charissa Ruth Freelance Educator

Charissa is currently working as a freelance educator at several institutions including the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, the Cooper Hewitt Museum, and the Brooklyn Public Library. She enjoys having so many opportunities to work with such varied audiences and ages! She believes that museums and other cultural institutions are truly inspirational spaces for every kind of learner and she enjoys sharing all the wonderful things she is learning about and teaching about through her Instagram account @lookwhereyagoin. She is also a graduate from the Bank Street College's Museum Education Program and University of South Carolina Honor College's Anthropology Program. Charissa is the coordinator for the Freelancer Peer Group.

Focus: Volunteer Recruitment & Training: Please join us and special guest speaker Vincent Deschamp, Director of Visitor Experience at the Brooklyn Children's Museum, for a conversation about volunteer recruitment and training, an area in which Vincent has much experience. He began a global research project on volunteer management, which started during his work at the Smithsonian Institution and continued through his previous position as the Visitor Experience Manager at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden in D.C. He has since published his findings Public Engagement In Volunteer Management & Visitor Services: In And Outside The United States which we are looking forward to discussing together at our meeting.
