Position Description:
Intrepid Museum is looking for After School Program Educators. The After School Program Educators are sought for delivering K-8 after school partnership programs making use of the Museum’s collection to engage students and support learning in the after school hours.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
After School Program Educators will work one-two days per week to deliver programs in a two hour block between 2:00pm and 5:30pm depending on school needs. While the direct instructional time will be approximately 40-50 hours, pay is figured at a rate of $25 per hour to cover training/lesson preparation/teaching/organization of student projects and paperwork, liaising with school and Museum personnel/monitoring of supplies/program evaluation for a total of 175 hours. ($4,375.00 per school partnership). Programs occur at schools in all five boroughs approximately between October 2023 and June 2024.

Opportunities for other per-diem work at a rate of $25 per hour are a possibility for those with more availability.

Candidate Qualifications:
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in education, science, history, museum studies or a related field. Master’s studies and/or teacher certification a plus, especially in special education.
– Two years related experience working in an educational setting.
– Understanding of object- and inquiry-based teaching practices.
– Comfortable teaching interdisciplinary history and science programs to varied audiences including individuals with cognitive, sensory, physical, emotion and behavioral disabilities.
– Experience differentiating lessons to meet specific academic and social-emotional learning goals.
– Knowledge of best practices for English Language Learners and disability specific instructional strategies a plus.
– NYC Department of Education fingerprinting a plus.
– Multi-lingual or bi-lingual a plus.

A successful candidate:
– Must be extremely reliable as classes depend on your presence.
– Be able to think and make informed decisions quickly and under pressure.
– Have excellent communication and organizational abilities.
– Be able to work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues and off-site partners possessing a variety of skills, trainings and experiences.
– Be available and willing to travel to the program site(s).
