Position Description:
Art21’s Education Coordinator works closely with the Director of Education to support new and existing educational programs and projects including content development, professional development, event programming, and general communication about these initiatives across platforms. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of contemporary art and education, excellent writing and administrative skills, experience with teacher workshop planning and program management, and a proven track record as an effective collaborator and dynamic team player. The Coordinator will design and co-design, manage, and facilitate teacher workshops for national and international educators. They will also keep abreast of developments in the field of education with an eye toward interdisciplinary learning, and be creative about how to support Art21’s educational initiatives. Travel around New York City and the United States, including overnight stays, will be required to facilitate programming. In addition, evening and weekend work will be necessary to engage different audiences.

Art21’s Education Initiatives include:

– Art21 Educators––a year-long professional development initiative and expanding community of multi-disciplinary educators from across the country who develop innovative strategies for teaching and learning inspired by Art21 artists.

– Art21 Ambassadors––rolling professional development sessions for educators held virtually through Zoom and in-person around the country.

– Art21 Lifelong Learners––a new initiative bringing access to contemporary art to audiences 60+ years old.

– Screening Society––a free global screening program, in support of new seasons of the Art in the Twenty-First Century television series.

– Public Programs––adult programs that highlight Art21 films, featured artists, or filmmakers held virtually through Zoom and in-person around the country.

– Resources–Supplemental materials to accompany films, including articles, Educators’ Guides, and more.

Reports to:
Director of Education

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
– Coordinate virtual and live events for adult audiences, primarily teachers, including summer institutes, workshop sessions, and special events;
– Conceive or co-conceive each program’s goals and ensure they are met throughout each program’s process;
– Assist with program marketing and publicity;
– Participate in annual Art21 Educators selection process, including processing and reading applications, meeting with the selection team, and communicating with selected individuals;
– Co-manage private social networking platform for Art21 Educators (Google Classroom site).

Event Management:
– Assist with the development of each semester’s calendar of programs, publicity plans and materials;
– Execute the dissemination of event information and materials to broad-based educational audiences including teachers, administrators, school and community stakeholders, and college/university faculty and students;
– Manage technology needs for live and virtual events;
– Oversee event registration and participant and presenter support systems;
– Coordinate event follow-up including evaluation, debriefing with presenters and organizational partners, and dissemination of event follow-up materials.

Content Development and Communication:
– Develop new teacher workshops, including formulating program goals, researching and writing lesson plans, leading workshops, and tracking program feedback;
– Assist in the development of interpretive content including Educators’ Guides and articles.

General Administration:
– Maintain updated contact lists, programmatic documentation and records;
– Update existing, and occasionally create, documents that track program and resource feedback, including attendance data, participant quotes, survey information;
– Collaborate with other department staff as needed (Production, Digital, Curatorial, Development);


Candidate Qualifications:
Qualifications:
– BA or BS required in Art Education, Art Administration, Art History or a related subject;
– 2-4 years relevant experience working with contemporary art education including administrative experience in museum education, non-profit arts education, community-based education, and/or schools;
– Program management experiences as well as experience with professional development and/or teaching;
– Demonstrated knowledge of, and passion for contemporary visual art and education;
– Excellent organizational and communication skills in writing, visuals, and speech;
– Ability to establish strong working relationships with colleagues, participants, and partner organizations;
– Creative thinker and problem solver;
– Proven self-starter and team player;
– Flexibility and sense of humor;
– Technical savvy and experience with online platforms and social media;
– Knowledge of Mac systems and Microsoft Office platforms, Zoom, MailChimp, as well as design software including InDesign and Photoshop. Design experience is a plus;
– Proficiency or fluency in Spanish or Mandarin preferred;
– Driver’s license preferred.

The salary range for this position is $66-68k annually, depending on experience. This full-time position is based in New York City. Art21 is a hybrid workplace. The Education Coordinator position is based in NYC and will require weekly office visits and in-person event attendance. Evening and weekend work will be required. The majority of these afterhours commitments will be virtual and the Coordinator can facilitate these meetings and programs from their home. Occasional in-person evening and weekend work will be needed and dates will be provided with advance notice.

Travel around New York City and the United States, including overnight stays, will be required. Art21 covers travel expenses and will provide an organization’s credit card to cover expenses. The Coordinator will book their own travel, manage their trips, including expenses, receipts, and processing all paperwork after the trip concludes, under the supervision of the Director of Education. The ideal candidate will be comfortable traveling on their own, managing personal logistics, and working remotely in different locations. Candidates with a driver’s license and familiarity with renting and driving cars preferred.
