Job Title: House Manager, Lefferts Historic House


Description: Be part of the driving force that sustains Prospect Park, Brooklyn's flagship park. The Prospect Park Alliance, the nonprofit that restores and advances the Park, seeks a part-time, year-round House Manager to manage Lefferts Historic House during open hours. The House Manager is responsible for opening and closing the museum, overseeing all daily operations, and supervising a staff of three high school students. The House Manager will also enforce the museum’s rules and ensure the safety and preservation of the historic house, exhibits, artifacts, staff and visitors. The House Manager will support the Supervising Educator with other tasks and responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities: - Create daily schedules for outdoor and indoor activities - Greet incoming visitors, lead tours, and facilitate interactions with indoor and outdoor exhibits and activities - Enforce the museum’s rules, ensuring the safety and preservation of the historic house, exhibits, artifacts, staff and all visitors - Manage weekend morning birthday parties on an as-needed basis, setting up the space, leading guests in crafts and activities, taking care of the birthday families’ needs, and transitioning the site from the birthday party into public hours - Occasionally staff or manage evening time and day time special events - During the off-season, the House Manager will assist the Supervising Educator in maintenance, organizational projects and program development

Qualifications: Qualifications for the House Manager position include:- Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, history, education or related field (or equivalent experience)- 1 – 2 years experience in a public programs setting (museum, historic house, or nature center, etc).- Excellent presentation, communication and customer service skills- Some managerial or supervisory experience preferred but not necessary- Experience working with teenagers preferred but not necessary- Familiarity with historic preservation and/or museum education- An interest in Brooklyn and New York City history- The ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment- The ability to work with visitors from diverse backgrounds- Experience with sensory friendly programming preferred but not necessarya willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and stand for long periods of time- A desire to do hands-on work, often some physical labor, including lifting up to 30 lbs.- A flexible schedule with the ability to work some evenings and weekends- Valid license to drive in New York State
