Job Title: Assistant Manager Of School Programs (N-YHS)


Description: The New-York Historical Society is seeking an Assistant Manager of School Programs to provide critical administrative, logistical, and programmatic support to the Education Division. The Assistant Manager of School Programs serves as support to the School Programs team in the coordination and execution of Art of History, History on Broadway, and Homeschool Academy programs. This includes scheduling, staffing, and observing programs; reviewing and revising outlines; marketing programs and collecting payment; and serving as the main point of contact for participating schools and families. The Assistant Manager of School Programs will lead field trip programs on a regular basis and work closely with the School Programs team to run daily logistics, review and revise program outlines annually, and participate in planning and running training for the part time Educators. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in History, Art History, Visual Arts, Theater, Education, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Previous experience as a classroom teacher preferred. EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will have a strong background in researching and teaching American history to a variety of audiences. The Assistant Manager must be available to work regular evening and weekend hours to facilitate and observe programs. ● Minimum three years’ experience leading student programs focused on museum collections and exhibitions, experience leading student programs in the New-York Historical Society strongly preferred; ● Extensive knowledge of the New-York Historical Society’s collections strongly preferred; ● Experience with lesson planning or program writing preferred; ● Must be highly organized and detail oriented; ● Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and database management; ● Excellent communication skills, including phone and email; ● Excellent decision making skills, ability to perform under pressure; ● Fluency in Spanish preferred; ● Superior customer service skills; ● Ability to meet deadlines, ability to work independently and as a member of a team; ● Knowledge of the New York State Learning Standards for Visual Arts, the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Visual Arts, New York State Learning Standards for the Social Studies, and the Common Core Learning Standards; ● Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed; ● Ability to work individually and as a member of a team.
