Teaching Artist
Splat Lab
Organization Description:
Splat Lab began as a new addition to our Anthropology Arts programming which we have been offering to schools for many years. Slowly it became the heart of it all. When we launched Splat Lab in 2018, it was an instant hit and loved by kids all over New York City!
The sole purpose of Splat is to have fun! The goal is to use STEAM-inspired activities so that kids can problem-solve, explore and feel a sense of belonging in the group.
Position Description:
Splat Lab grew out of the world of after-school, where we partner with over 50 schools to provide high-quality and unique enrichment classes for youth. We have two signature classes: Anthropology Arts and Splat Lab. This year we are partnering with multiple schools to provide 8-10 week after school programs as well as 1-day popup workshops, school day residencies, Saturday programs and other events. We run camps in Inwood/Washington heights in October and February as well as other opportunities for full day programming.
Splat Lab *Most Popular*: Splat Lab exists for the sole purpose of having fun! Each class is formatted to have 4 rotating stations: The Main Splat activity, such as making slime, marshmallow towers, or ooze, Splat Create where students can choose from a few activities such as monster puppets or zine making, Open splat: butcher paper drawing, and Splat Build: cup towers, dominos, etc.
Anthropology Arts: Our goal is to expose young people to the cultural traditions, voices, and histories of people that are often left out of traditional classroom settings and social studies curriculum. Each class is formatted to feature a community circle, project time with open-ended materials, collaborative clean-up, and a closing community circle.
