Temporary Assistant – Art Lab Facilitator

Organization Description: 
The Family Programs team in the Department of Learning and Engagement is looking to hire four temporary assistants to help support The Samuel and Ronnie Heyman Family Art Lab during the busy summer months and into early fall. In Art Lab, kids and adults experiment, play, and create as they make connections between their own creative explorations and the ideas, tools, and techniques of modern and contemporary art. We are hoping to staff the lab on weekends in June, seven days a week from July through August, then return to weekends only in September and October.

Position Description/ Job Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES:

– Facilitate visitor experiences in Art Lab including: greeting visitors and introducing the main ideas of the space; suggesting age-appropriate activities and helping visitors engage with them; connecting what visitors are doing/exploring in the lab with information about artists and artwork in MoMA’s collection; suggesting ways to continue exploration, both in the Museum galleries and outside world.

– Assist with the daily maintenance of the space, including cleaning and stocking/organizing materials.

– Work with MoMA Guest Specialists who are responsible for tracking attendance, administering visitor surveys, helping greet visitors, establishing waiting lists and answering Museum-related questions

Candidate Qualifications:
Experience: Working with children and/or families in an informal learning environment, and/or
front facing hospitality.

Skills: Communicates effectively. Ability to work with the public. Second language helpful.

Hours: 6-24 hours/week
In June, there will be shifts on Saturdays and Sundays and school holidays
From July 1- September 3, there will be shifts every day
From September 3- October 27 there will be shifts on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays.
