How do museums and cultural institutions amplify the visibility of LGBTQ+ voices when there is a history of erasureand absence in curatorial content? To what extent does erasure impact you at work as a staff member? Does not being visibly queer leave you out of the loop in discussions? We will explore a case study and education program developed by the Intrepid Museum in partnership with NYCDOE and SAGEVets that centers on the impacts of LGBTQ+ inclusion in the military. Further, we will examine absence as historical proof and how parallel experiences can be used to highlight marginalized queer voices within our content. Considering institutional policies, we will also explore methods for pitching ideas for LGBTQ+ inclusivity in programming while also brainstorming partnership opportunities.
