Position Description:
The Access Programs team in the Department of Learning and Engagement is looking to hire temporary support staff to assist with Access Programs at the Museum of Modern Art.

MoMA offers a variety of free programs to increase the accessibility of the Museum for a range of audiences, including individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, individuals who are blind or have low vision, individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, individuals with mental illness, and older adults.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
– Greet program participants, assist with check-in, distribute Assistive Listening Devices, act as sighted guide, distribute gallery activity or workshop supplies, support wayfinding and group management during gallery conversations and artmaking workshops.

– Assist with setup and cleanup before and after programs. Assist with any pre-program prep as needed.

– May require lifting up to 20 lbs (carrying and prepping art materials) and carrying gallery stools for participants.

Candidate Qualifications:
– Experience: Working with individuals with disabilities, working with individuals of all ages in an informal learning environment, and/or front facing hospitality. Experience and knowledge of preparing supplies and/or art making materials for varied populations, particularly those with disabilities. An interest or knowledge of modern and contemporary art. Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.

– Skills: Communicates effectively. Enthusiastic about working with the public. Understanding of the social model of disability, ability to attend to the difference between an individual’s health condition and the environmental or attitudinal barriers that present a disabling experience.

– Qualities: Outgoing, personable, organized, and punctual.

– Hours: 3-5 hours/week. Includes weekend, weekday, and evening programs. Hours/week will vary with programming schedule.
