Opening in June 2019 in New York City, Poster House provides a space for inquiry for all those interested in design, advertising, and public interventions, with an aim to improve design literacy among the general public. Position Description:
The Manager of Education for Poster House oversees tour-based programming and educational events for all distinct audiences inclusive of K-12 school groups, college and graduate school groups, families, teens, special needs, multi-lingual, and adults. The Manager works under the direction of the Curator to review exhibition content and synthesize it into impactful and informative tours and age-appropriate educational offerings. This role is responsible for shaping the interpretation of the Museum’s mission to all audiences, supervising education department staff, scheduling staff for tours and programs, modeling successful interactive tour strategies, and analyzing visitor data and evaluation results to drive future programming.
This position reports to the Executive Director/Curator. The regular schedule for this role is 10am-6pm Monday-Friday with flexibility for after-hours and weekend work as needed (approximately ten weekend days per year).
Physical Demands:
Perform desk-based computer tasks, including using a computer screen for long periods of time, typing, and making phone calls
Stand for 60- to 90-minutes at a time while moving about the exhibition space to give tours
Project voice clearly for up to two-hours at a time, occasionally multiple times per day
Adjust or move objects up to 30 lbs in all directions
Poster House currently operates with a hybrid work model with staff working both remotely and on-site. The Manager of Education position would be able to participate in this hybrid work model, with an expected minimum of three days per week on site depending on tour volume, while having the ability to attend department and staff meetings in person or virtually. The salary range for the Manager of Education role is $95,000–$100,000 commensurate with experience. Full-time Poster House employees receive 2 personal days, 5 sick days, and 2 bereavement days per year, as well as 20 vacation days, and are eligible for an extensive benefits package, including a fully-matched 401K plan after one year of employment at the museum.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
– Oversee all education department offerings, including content interpretation and logistics coordination
– Develop and lead interactive, inquiry-based tours and creative workshops for student groups of all ages in both the museum and school settings as needed
– Develop and lead curatorial-style, content-rich tours for adult groups
– Oversee Bloomberg Connects app content development including the creation of audio tours and accessible content on the platform
– Manage two full time educators and one part time educator as well as any interns
– Advise on marketing initiatives for education department offerings including development and production of print/promotional materials such as kid’s activity cards, rack cards, website, and press/promotional materials
– Perform outreach to schools and adult groups in order to increase engagement with museum
– Manage departmental budget and oversee programming supplies and inventory tracking
– Attend weekly staff meetings as well as monthly departmental meetings and other meetings as needed
– Oversee evaluation initiatives and analysis of programming data for each exhibition cycle; compile statistics and reports with attention to audiences served, types of tours booked, and departmental feedback
– Assist in the development and execution of various programming efforts during museum hours, including First Friday
– Represent Poster House at various community events, including Teens Take the Met and West Side Fest
Candidate Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
– Masters degree in Museum Education, Museum Leadership, Museum Studies, Design, or equivalent experience
– A minimum of 5 years experience teaching and managing educational programming in informal settings
– Proven ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while juggling multiple tasks and projects, planning months in advance while responding to day-to-day demands
– A strong sense of initiative and the ability to think outside of the box with the goal of bringing in and maintaining more tour bookings at the museum
– A demonstrated positive approach to problem solving and collaborating with others, with the ability to motivate a small team
– Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
– Strong and engaging public speaking skills
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in the content areas of history, design history, art history, or fine art
– A strong interest in design history
– Experience working with diverse audiences both in age ranges and abilities
– Experience working with digital project management tools such as Airtable, Asana, and Google Suite
– Experience leading dynamic, engaging tours
