Position Description:

Reports to:
The Department of Learning and Engagement at The Museum of Modern Art seeks bilingual (Spanish/English) teaching artists to develop and deliver inquiry-based art looking and making programs for English and Spanish speaking families.

Note: this contract is to teach multiple sessions of an established partnership with a community organization at MoMA and the individual needs to be able to teach all sessions indicated below.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
Scope of work:
– Plan thematic, developmentally appropriate programs that combine art looking and art making for families with children ages 4 to 14, in line with MoMA’s standards for Family Gallery Talks and Art Workshops
– Facilitate bilingual group conversations and multi-modal activities in front of artworks; engaging both children and adults in the tour
– Lead art-making projects that explore the ideas, techniques, and inspirations of modern and contemporary art, and help participants connect their own creative process to the artworks experienced during their visit.
-Welcome and greet visitors, providing information and assistance as needed
– Utilize and research MoMA’s collection and special exhibitions in service to program development
– Prepare resources and materials for program activities, and store and organize supplies after programs
– Attend planning meetings with MoMA staff and other teaching artists

Candidate Qualifications:
Desired skills and qualifications:
– Fluency to lead programs in English and Spanish
– Experience teaching programs with clear learning objectives
– Experience teaching with objects in a museum setting, and skilled at leading open-ended, inquiry-based conversations
– Experience incorporating multi-modal activities to support discoveries about art
– Experience leading children and adults in individual, family, or collaborative art projects that prioritize the creative process over the final product, with an emphasis on experimentation.
– Experience working with intergenerational audiences; skilled at engaging both children and adults, with art and with each other
– A strong knowledge of modern and contemporary art
– Excellent verbal communication skills and poise, including experience in mediating and facilitating conversations with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, ages, abilities, and attitudes.
– Commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity, and skilled at helping first-time visitors feel welcomed and engaged.
– Ability to maintain a high quality of customer service and professionalism
