A Message from NYCMER’s Board President
Dear NYCMER Community,
On behalf of the board, we want to acknowledge that many of us face a difficult transition under the new administration. Whether your funding has been threatened, your mission challenged, or your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion undermined, we have all seen our work in education thrust into the national spotlight in unsettling ways since January 20.
For museum educators personally affected by recent government policy changes—especially our transgender and non-binary colleagues and undocumented immigrants in our programs and workplaces—we want you to know that we see you. Your fears about the future are valid and we stand with you.
NYCMER remains committed to keeping our community safe, diverse, and inclusive. As an all-volunteer board of fellow museum educators, we recognize the power of community in amplifying voices and celebrating successes. We also understand that the personal, professional, and political are deeply intertwined. If you are seeking connection and support, we encourage you to explore NYCMER Peer Groups as a space to find like-minded colleagues. Additionally, we will continue to engage in advocacy by and for museum workers in every way we can.
Our upcoming conference, Welcome: Museums in Community, on May 19 will highlight the power of community building. We hope you will join us at the conference and at upcoming NYCMER events as we continue strengthening our network across the metropolitan region.
Thank you for your dedication. We look forward to continuing our shared work of harnessing the transformative power of museum educators for many years to come.
Leah Golubchick
NYCMER Board President
