Why Museums? Reflection and Revitalization in the Field of Museum Education
Join us for the 2024 NYCMER Annual Conference on May 13 at Teachers College, Columbia University. This year’s theme is Why Museums? Reflection and Revitalization in the Field of Museum Education. Explore the ways in which museums serve as the cornerstones of education and community, share your inspiration for museum education work, and make sense of our rapidly changing, pandemic-altered museum landscape. We will reflect on our current responsibilities as museum educators and explore how we can revitalize existing methodologies and programming in the post-pandemic museum landscape. Together.
Keynote Conversation
Join us for a conversation with Adjoa Jones de Almeida, inaugural Executive Director for Forman Arts Initiative (FAI) and former Director of Education for the Brooklyn Museum, and Sean M. Decatur, President of the American Museum of Natural History, and former president of Kenyon College. This moderated discussion will consider "Why Museums?" from the perspective of two leaders in the field, and how educators are uniquely positioned to shepherd change in cultural institutions.
