Job Title: Art Educator Coordinator (wave Hill)


Description: Wave Hill is seeking an enthusiastic, high-performing leader, who enjoys working with people of all ages to play a central role in the Education Department, providing creative input and art education guidance for various Education programs, and developing art components of curricula. The Art Education Coordinator will manage the day-to-day operations of the Family Art Project (FAP), one of the Department’s signature programs, which immerses children and their families in the pleasures and wonders of Wave Hill’s gardens, grounds and art exhibitions at Glyndor Gallery through hands-on, nature-based, art activities that encourage creativity and imagination. This program runs year-round, with a drop-in format each weekend. The Coordinator develops, plans and leads nature-inspired, science-infused art workshops for a high-quality, busy program with storytelling and art project components. This entails managing program staff, guest artists, interns, and volunteers while ensuring an inviting, experiential atmosphere that welcomes children, typically aged 3-8, and their families and/or caregivers to create, imagine and celebrate nature and culture through art across the seasons. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: - Developing the seasonal project schedule that includes new and previously presented projects - Work with Public Programs and Arts staff to coordinate programming with other activities at Wave Hill - Preparing art project demonstrations/samples and signage with assistance from FAP staff and interns - Managing work schedules, tracking staff and intern hours, and coordinating submission of time-sheets - Hiring at least two guest artists per season, including participants in exhibition and work space programs - Purchasing, organizing and maintaining supplies and materials - Developing seasonal copy and editing web content, and working with Marketing on outreach efforts - Maintaining program records including staff and supply budgets, contact lists, and attendance statistics - Assisting with the preparation of proposals, reports, evaluations and other documents In addition, the Coordinator will work closely with Education staff providing creative and pedagogical input and assistance on a variety of programs and projects, and integrating any science or other input needed for FAP programs. They will participate in other departmental and institutional programs as needed. Qualifications: - Degree in art, education, art education, or related field; advanced degree preferred - Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills - Experience working with children and inter-generational groups in a non-traditional educational setting - Background in art education or related field, and knowledgeable about gardens and nature - Available Saturday and Sunday a must - Experience training and mentoring youth interns a plus - Proficiency in Spanish, Russian or another language a plus
