Our next NYCMember Tour is taking place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Storm King Art Center!

Quoting from their About page, “Storm King Art Center is a 500-acre outdoor museum located in New York’s Hudson Valley, where visitors experience large-scale sculpture and site-specific commissions under open sky.” During this NYCMember Tour, educators from Storm King’s Learning and Engagement department will host an exclusive insider’s tour for us, focusing on how they use the grounds with students and the public, on accessibility on the grounds, and how they plan and implement site-specific outdoor public programming, and they are excited to show off some of their new features and procedures!

But Storm King Art Center is a great place to spend a whole day. You will want to leave plenty of time to explore the grounds — take a walk, rent a bike, or go on a tram ride. And, if you can arrive early, a Geology Tour is also available for free!

Schedule:

10:00am: Storm King opens

10:30am – 1:30pm: Geology Tour (optional)

2:30pm – 3:45pm-ish: NYCMember Tour

5:30pm: Storm King closes 

Food: There is a cafe at Storm King Art Center with many hot/warm options, and you may bring your own food.

Dress: This is an all-weather, all-outdoor experience. Storm King has limited indoor space, so please plan to dress for the weather.

Accessibility: Storm King prides itself on their accessibility, but does note that there is uneven terrain. Please see their website for details, and we ask you to indicate if you will need any accommodations on the form.

Deposit: Admission for NYCMember Tour attendees will be free, but we will be asking for a refundable deposit to ensure your attendance.

Transportation: Attendees will need to plan and pay for transportation. There are bus, NJTransit, Metro North, and driving options available – see the form, linked below, for more details.

Lottery: We have only 15 spots available for NYCMER Members. Due to our limited capacity, interested NYCMER Members will be selected through a lottery. The form to enter the lottery is linked below and includes details about transportation options. Take time to think about your possible plan, and then fill out the form. All entries submitted by the deadline – 11:59pm EDT on Saturday, October 12th – will be treated equally. Everyone who entered the lottery by the deadline will be informed within a few days about their status, and we will keep a waiting list of those not selected. No payment will be due as you fill out the form, we will be in touch with those selected to confirm, discuss, and collect payment.
