Description:  Resilience and change. Two powerful words. Queer Peers hosts a special guest speaker, Rebecca Klassen, one of the curators of the current exhibition Art for Change: The Artist & Homeless Collaborative. Many of the artists involved were moved to volunteer due to the AIDS crisis and the culture wars of the Bush-Reagan years. The exhibition features projects that the Artist & Homeless Collaborative did with Visual AIDS: The Second Day Without Art poster and the Armory Ribbon Bee, in which shelter residents produced tens of thousands of Red Ribbons as a cottage industry. The process also engaged artist Betty Yu to do a participatory poster with Youth Leaders from the Door. The result includes augmented reality-accessed interviews with four youth who have or currently are experiencing homelessness, most whom are queer. Join us for an engaging look at resilience and change.
