Join us for an afternoon of Zines & Screams! There’s a lot happening in the world right now, and much of it can feel overwhelming. In times like these, community and creativity are powerful tools for processing and connecting. Together, we’ll share ideas and resources through zine-making — creating our own small works of art that reflect what matters to us as educators and humans.

Afterward, we’ll head to the park for a cathartic group scream — a lighthearted yet meaningful way to let go, recharge, and support one another. Because sometimes, we all just need to make art… and make some noise.

This event is free and open to current NYCMER members only (and a plus one)!

Meet our special guests!

Joseph “Nature” Garlington (he/him) has a master’s in mental health counseling and currently works in the Manhattan court system as a counselor. He has professionally facilitated meditation for clients of Calm City and BeTime. He is a vocalist with training from the University of Tennessee. His favorite flavor of ice cream is strawberry shortcake.

Alessandra Vertrees (she/her) is an artist and software engineer whose project Mestiza Creamery transforms memory and heritage into a sensory storytelling experience through ice cream. Born in a Brooklyn factory loft and raised on a farm in Upstate New York, she blends ancestral and local ingredients, native plants, and emotion into something ephemeral.
