Manager, School & Teacher Engagement

The Intrepid Museum’s nationally-recognized K-12 education programs support and expand school-based learning and student understanding of history and innovations in engineering and technology both in and out of school. This is achieved through an integrated, multimodal approach, including exploration through the arts, using the examples of the past to spark ideas for solutions to 21st-century challenges. K-12 students are engaged through long-term partnerships, residencies, and field trips.

Position Description:
This position encompasses the oversight, development, delivery and assessment of interdisciplinary history and STEM programming for teachers and students. Additionally, the Manager will help train staff to deliver programming and work with the Vice President of Education & Evaluation to set and measure program outcomes. Programming happens at the Museum, virtually and offsite, primarily on weekdays, with occasional evenings and weekends required.

Reports to:
Reporting to the Director of Lifelong Learning, the Manager of School & Teacher Engagement will be a professional, creative, organized, energetic individual to oversee educational programming for K12 students and teachers.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
– Develop, deliver and assess interdisciplinary programs grounded in the Museum’s collections for K-12 students and teachers
– Foster school partnerships
– Facilitate communication with the Group Sales department
– Organize and facilitate department team trainings
– Aid in the development, marketing and evaluation of Teacher Professional Development programs in accordance with state and local standards.
– Supervise two full time staff members as well as up to 15 per diem educators which includes bi-weekly payroll; performance reviews; program and project assignments and scheduling
– Assist the VP of Education & Evaluation and Director of Lifelong Learning in the crafting of grant narratives, reports and supporting fundraising teams
– Ensure Museum education offerings remain relevant to city, state and national standards
– Cultivate NYC Public Schools and other relevant professional contacts
– Under supervision of the Director of Lifelong Learning, develop and manage budget for school and teacher programs, including tracking expenses, reviewing invoices and purchase orders
– Collaborate with cross departmental colleagues in the creation of resource materials for target audiences
– Represent the department at conferences, teacher events, fairs, and community events.
– Perform other duties as required

Candidate Qualifications:
– an MA in Education, History, the Sciences or Museum Studies or related field
– Minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching in schools, museums, or similar venue with project and/or staff oversite preferred
– Familiarity with NY State and NYC teacher certifications and requirements.
– Comprehensive understanding of national and local K12 curriculum standards including Next Generation Science Standards and the C3 Social Studies Framework.
– Proven experience in program development for informal and formal educational settings for both students and teachers.
– Experience building relationships with administrators, teachers, and students in the New York City public school system and/or community-based organizations
– Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and excellent written and verbal communication
– Demonstrated ability to take initiative, proactively manage multiple projects and priorities with concurrent and changing deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
– Flexible and adaptable work style
– Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary.
– Teacher Certification a plus
Additional Competence Requirements:
– Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as in internet research. Familiarity with Tessitura a plus.
– Understanding of culturally responsive curriculum development and feedback
– Bilingual abilities are a plus
