Position Description:
The Intrepid Museum is seeking a creative, energetic, self-directed and detail-oriented Museum Educator/Coordinator of School & Teacher Engagement to support our educational projects. An ideal candidate will have a passion for K12 education, inquiry‐based museum learning, and experience working directly with teachers. The candidate will be familiar with formal and informal educational teaching methods, be able to assist in the creation of materials based on the content and collections of the Museum that connect to local and national curriculum standards, and committed to the Intrepid Museum’s mission.

Reporting to the Manager of School & Teacher Engagement as a part of the Lifelong Learning Team, the Museum Educator/Coordinator for School and Teacher Engagement will assist with planning, coordination, implementation and record keeping for in‐person and virtual educational programming for in-school K12 partnerships and programs, teacher professional development and special projects. They will also be part of the wider Education team that provides group visits, family day activities, museum-wide festival and partnership events. The successful candidate should expect to participate in cross‐departmental projects and planning.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
This position will:
– Support the planning and implementation of several federally funded programs and other professional development opportunities for teachers in partnership with the NYC Public Schools or other educational organizations.
– Collaborate with NYC public schools and other organizations, individual speakers and Museum staff in preparing teacher and/or student programs.
– Maintain a working knowledge and practice of Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education (CR-SE) practices.
– Perform administrative tasks including event outreach and registration; updating outreach databases; preparing materials and schedules for professional development and specialized school and DOE programs; creating and maintaining school and teacher attendance sheets; coordinating program evaluation efforts with the VP of Education and Evaluation; assisting with the drafting reports; maintaining confidential documentation for CTLE records; updating CTLE sponsorship certification with New York State when needed; recording and archiving program recordings.

Candidate Qualifications:
Requirements:
– 2‐4 years of experience working in a museum or other educational institution
– Familiarity with NY State and NYC teacher certifications and requirements.
– Comprehensive understanding of national and local K12 curriculum standards including Next Generation Science Standards and the C3 Social Studies Framework.
– Proven experience in program development for informal and formal educational settings for both students and teachers.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills.
– Ability to multi‐task, effectively prioritize responsibilities, and complete projects independently and in a timely manner while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
– Creative, strategic thinker who loves exploration, experimentation, and joyful learning.

Salary or Compensation:
$48,000 – $50,000
