Position Description:
The Brooklyn Museum seeks a skilled coordinator to support the Community Engagement and Partnership’s team in the organization and implementation of dynamic programming for the inaugural Museum on Wheel’s initiative. This role will coordinate and implement logistics and operational processes and evaluation procedures for all Museum on Wheel’s programs, events and experiences which will be co-developed with community-based groups, arts and cultural organizations, and artists. They are considerate and respectful of diverse perspectives and experiences. Attention to the highest levels of discretion, honesty, and professionalism are essential. This is a two-year part-time position, with opportunity for renewal.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
Program Ideation and Planning
– Work in partnership with the Senior Manager of Community Engagement, and community stakeholders across Brooklyn, to co-develop and implement meaningful programming experiences for the Museum on Wheels initiative.

– Familiarize themselves with the Museum on Wheel’s initiative, and other programming under the Learning and Social Impact department.

– Lead and collaborate on all logistics associated with each Museum on Wheels program activations. This includes setting and confirming reservations, creating production schedules, managing event registrations, ordering and organizing supplies, making travel arrangements, scheduling staff, corresponding with external talent, arranging virtual and in-person planning meetings and agendas, drafting and disseminating communications to internal and external stakeholders (artists, contract educators, vendors, and internal colleagues), advising on program and printed materials, tracking program expenses, and processing invoices and agreements.

– Participate in off-site and on-site visits with external partners and internal stakeholders across the Museum.

– Ensure all necessary materials, equipment, and supplies are prepared and ready for each program.

– Program Facilitation and Day of Responsibilities

– Serve as a secondary point of contact for all Museum on Wheels programs, events and experiences.

– Work with teens, volunteers, and full-time museum and/or partner staff.

– Assist with facilitation of program activities as needed (i.e setting up art making project, welcoming and seating participants, distributing supplies, clean-up)

– Lead evaluative process and procedures for each program including tracking program attendance, compiling participant intake information (quantitative and qualitative data), and organizing pre and post program assessments.

– Share program information and distribute photography release forms.

– Facilitate stakeholder reflections at the end of each program via testimonials and/or formal surveys to measure impact and community response.

– Maintain complete and accurate program records, and update onboarding materials and project planning tools for partners and collaborators as needed.

– Co-manage a database of current and potential community partners.

– Co-organize systems and resources to promote Museum on Wheels programming, and support relationship building by liaising with leaders, artists, and organizations within targeted communities.

– Co-ideate strategies to attract and retain new and diverse audiences to the Brooklyn Museum, prioritizing those who have been historically underrepresented in the Museum’s visitor ship.

– Other duties as assigned

Candidate Qualifications:
– BA in visual arts, education, art history, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience

– 2+ years of experience in a cultural institution, community organizing and/or working closely with civic and grassroots community-based organizations to organize public and private outdoor events.

– Knowledge of best practices for successful community engagement and outreach.

– Knowledge of and experience working with contemporary artists.

– Knowledge of Brooklyn’s diverse communities and arts and cultural landscape.

– Strong program management, planning, and organizing skills; ability to oversee multiple resources, tasks, systems, to establish courses of action that achieve desired results.

– Proficiency in creating evaluative reports, collecting and tracking qualitative and quantitative data, managing schedules and deadlines, and drafting correspondence.

– Ability to work collaboratively with team members and present complex information clearly.

– Excellent intercultural and interpersonal skills, with experience interfacing with intergenerational audiences, including families, children, elders, teens, adults and individuals with disabilities and neurodiversity.

– Strong cultural competency and demonstrable commitment to the Museum’s vision of art as a catalyst for a connected, civic, and empathetic world.

– Computer and media skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google Suite, and social media platforms.

– Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedule.

– Bilingual candidates strongly preferred with fluency in Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Schedule:
Planning, prep and execution of Museum on Wheels programs will take place from September 2024 – September 2025 (Only planning and prep will take place November – February per calendar year). Day of responsibilities will take place between 9 am-9 pm, Monday through Sunday; other hours flexible.

$32/hour, up to 80 hours/month
