Position Description:
The Brooklyn Museum seeks energetic and flexible artists to co-design, facilitate, and teach art making activities for diverse intergenerational audiences as part of the inaugural Museum on Wheels initiative. Most art making activities will take place offsite in community spaces. This is a one-year position, with opportunity for renewal.

Reports to:
Senior Manager of Community Engagement

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
– Familiarize themselves with supplies, instructions, the Museum on Wheels project, and other Community Partnership events and Education programs.
– Teach or co-teach drop-in and/or intensive artmaking activities for Museum on Wheels participants of all ages (includes setting up project, welcoming and seating participants, distributing supplies, providing instruction, transitioning between participants, clean-up, reflection meeting). Drop-in artmaking may serve up to 300 people per program.
– Facilitate the artmaking activity, which may be offered in a drop-in format (up to 6 hours)
When applicable, assist with distribution of photography release forms and information about other Museum programs.
– Order and prep supplies for up to 300 people.
– Work with teens, volunteers, and full-time museum and/or partner staff.
-Work with families (all ages) in a studio or public setting, either with a set of supplies for open and creative exploration, and/or in partnership with a visiting artist or community partner to realize a project.
– Support Museum’s goals by sharing program information and/or assisting with evaluation process for program.

Candidate Qualifications:
– BFA or BA in visual arts, education, art history, or a related field preferred.
– Minimum of 18 months (about 1 and a half years) of museum education experience.
– Knowledge of art history and artists’ practices.
– Excellent studio art teaching skills and experience with a variety of media.
– Experience working with intergenerational audiences, including families, children, elders, teens, adults and individuals with disabilities and neurodiversity.
– Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
– Experience writing lesson plans and track record of meeting deadlines.
– Capable of designing innovative yet simple activities with strong connections to the collection and special exhibitions on view.
– Comfortable collaborating as well as working independently on lesson development and delivery.
– Strong working knowledge of cultural competency,
– Knowledge of a variety of media such as drawing, collage, and sculpture.
– A demonstrable commitment to the Museum’s vision of art as a catalyst for a connected, civic, and empathetic world.
– Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedule.
– Bilingual candidates strongly preferred with fluency in Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Salary or Compensation:
$52/hour, up to 10 hours/month for Teaching (includes set up and cleanup) + $42/hour, up to 28 hours/month for Planning, Research and Prep
